Local Garden Care in Campbellfield

Your GMC Team in Campbellfield

Campbellfield is a mixed residential and industrial suburb with the busy Sydney Road corridor running through it. Residential pockets feature practical family homes, while the area also carries a heavy concentration of commercial and light-industrial property.

What we know about Campbellfield gardens

  • The blend of residential and commercial premises makes Campbellfield a key area for our commercial garden maintenance and site tidy-up work.
  • Open, exposed residential blocks here benefit from wind-hardy planting and consistent mowing to keep lawns thick enough to crowd weeds out.
  • Industrial estate frontages along the corridor need reliable scheduled maintenance to hold a presentable standard year-round.

About Campbellfield

Campbellfield takes its name from two unrelated Campbell families who bought farm lots here in the 1840s, when the land was lightly timbered grazing country close to the Merri Creek. Sydney Road runs through it, and the Scots' Church beside it, first built in 1842 and rebuilt in bluestone in 1855, is on the Victorian Heritage Register. The Ford assembly plant, built in the late 1950s, made the last Australian Falcons and Territorys before closing in 2016. Today the suburb mixes housing with industrial estates and business parks, with shops at Fordgate on Barry Road and a plaza on Sydney Road. Merlynston Creek starts in the National Boulevard Nature Reserve, and Upfield station sits on the western boundary with Coolaroo.

Soil, water and weather

Campbellfield sits on the basalt plain between the Upfield line and the Merri Creek. The soil is heavy clay, and on industrial land it has often been cut, filled and compacted under hardstand, so garden strips along frontages can have very little real soil to work with. Those narrow beds bake in summer and stay waterlogged after heavy rain. Tough, low-water plants, a deep layer of mulch and drip irrigation where it exists give frontage gardens the best chance. Home yards behave like those in the neighbouring suburbs: slow to drain in winter, cracking in summer, and better for a higher cut over the warm months.

Jobs that suit Campbellfield gardens

  • Commercial maintenance: Warehouses and business parks often need a one-off reset when a tenant moves in or out, followed by a regular schedule to hold the frontage. Commercial maintenance is quoted per site after a walk-through, so the scope is clear from the first visit.
  • Rubbish removal: A clean-out of a yard or work site can produce mixed loads of timber, broken concrete and green waste. Rubbish removal is quoted per load and takes general rubbish as well as garden waste, so it all leaves in one go.
  • Lawn mowing: Home lawns are priced on size: about $45 for a small lawn, around $50 to $65 for a standard family block and more for large or corner blocks. Customers on a regular weekly or fortnightly round pay the lowest per-visit price.

Questions

Campbellfield Garden Care FAQ

Do you maintain factory and warehouse frontages in Campbellfield?

Yes. Commercial grounds maintenance covers lawns, garden strips, hedges and general tidying around business and industrial sites, on a schedule that suits the site. It is quoted per site, and the first visit can include a full clean up if the frontage has been let go.

Why do garden strips along Campbellfield car parks keep dying?

Many are narrow beds of heavy clay or fill hemmed in by concrete, so they bake in summer and drown after storms. Tough, low-water plants, thick mulch and keeping weeds out so they do not steal moisture make the biggest difference to how they look.

Which council covers Campbellfield?

Campbellfield is in the City of Hume. Across the Merri Creek to the east, Lalor and Thomastown are in the City of Whittlesea, and Fawkner to the south is mostly in Merri-bek, so properties a few streets apart can sit under different councils.
