Local Garden Care in Gladstone Park

Your GMC Team in Gladstone Park

Gladstone Park is a well-established residential suburb near Melbourne Airport, known for its large shopping centre and extensive sports reserves. Family homes on good-sized blocks make up most of the area, with a mix of original and renovated gardens.

What we know about Gladstone Park gardens

  • Gladstone Park's substantial family blocks typically carry large lawns that look their best with a weekly mow and crisp edging through the growing season.
  • Many properties have mature hedges and screening planting around pools and entertaining areas that need a scheduled trim two or three times a year.
  • Homes under the flight path often use tall hedges for noise and privacy screening โ€” these need active height management before they outgrow what can be maintained safely.

About Gladstone Park

Gladstone Park has clear edges: the Tullamarine Freeway and Mickleham Road on the west, Broadmeadows Road on the north, the Western Ring Road on the south and the Jacana Valley on the east. It is named after Thomas Gladstone, who owned land here in the 1800s, and it began in the 1960s as an estate of Tullamarine. Most of the houses went up in a short burst between 1972 and 1975, so the suburb has an unusually even age. Along the eastern edge the Moonee Ponds Creek runs through the Jacana Valley past an extensive wetlands reserve and the creek trail, while Elmhurst Park and Gladstone Park Reserve are the main local parks.

Soil, water and weather

Because most homes went up within the same few years, Gladstone Park gardens have aged together. Any tree planted when its house was new is now around fifty years old, with roots that can reach well under lawns, paths and driveways. The ground is basalt plain clay, and on the eastern streets it falls toward the Jacana Valley, so run-off moves downhill after heavy rain. Being close to Melbourne Airport, the suburb is drier and windier than the inner north. Where a big tree shades and dries out the grass, raising the mowing height and feeding in early autumn give the lawn its best chance.

Jobs that suit Gladstone Park gardens

  • Lawn mowing: Gladstone Park's 1970s blocks have room for proper front and back lawns, which usually fall between the standard and large bands on our pricing guide, about $50 to $110 or more a visit. Regular weekly or fortnightly customers get the best rate.
  • Garden clean ups: A fifty-year-old garden tends to carry overgrown shrubs, self-sown seedlings and tired beds. A clean up cuts the garden back to its framework, weeds and edges the beds, and every bit of green waste goes on the day.
  • Rubbish removal: When a 1970s home is updated, the yard often gives up old pavers, sleepers, sheds and garden waste all at once. Rubbish removal takes general rubbish and green waste together and is quoted per load.

Questions

Gladstone Park Garden Care FAQ

When was Gladstone Park built?

Residential development started in the 1960s as an estate of Tullamarine, but most houses were built between 1972 and 1975. That gives the suburb gardens of a similar age, with trees, hedges and shrubs that are now around fifty years old and often ready for a serious prune.

What is the Jacana Valley on the edge of Gladstone Park?

It is the Moonee Ponds Creek valley along the suburb's eastern boundary, with an extensive wetlands reserve and the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail. Streets that slope toward it take run-off after heavy rain, so the low corner of those gardens needs to be kept clear and draining.

How far is Gladstone Park from GMC's Glenroy base?

Roughly 2 km as the crow flies. Gladstone Park sits just across the Western Ring Road from Glenroy's north-western corner, so it is one of the nearest suburbs we work in. Call 0448 215 297 for a free quote.
